About Medley Family Care Group Inc.

I'm Denise, also known as "Momma Shoes," and along with my husband Bill, or "Poppa Shoes," we founded this organization. Our personal experiences and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of families in need are deeply rooted in the foundation of our group.

Growing up, Bill and I faced many struggles and challenges due to limited financial resources. We had to rely on hand-me-down clothes from our siblings and even put cardboard in our worn-out shoes.

It was my late mother, the remarkable Hattie Stevens, who first instilled in us the importance of giving back by helping feed undernourished families in Liberia. When the school opened, I was asked to collect used shoes for the children, which brought back a terrifying memory from our past.

While working away from home and staying in motels, Bill contracted a foreign disease in his foot that required surgery. I was worried that the donated shoes might carry bacteria that could cause a sickness, just like it had affected my husband. It was then that I decided to provide new shoes for the children. 

Our first donation consisted of about ten pairs, and every year the need grew. But that didn't discourage us from doing everything we could to help. In 2022, Momma Shoes (as the children call me) provided 1,000 children with new pairs of shoes. That initial act of kindness ignited a passion within us, driving us to establish Medley Family Care Group, Inc. 

Today, that same passion has been passed down through the generations to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of giving and hope for families in need. What started as a mission to support one impoverished area in Liberia has now expanded to include feeding, clothing, educating, and providing clean water to villagers in Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda. 

This year, we plan to expand into Cyprus.
